The latest season of Daredevil was very uncomfortable to watch. Kingpin became mayor of New York by running on an anti-crime platform, then used it to enrich himself and persecute his enemies. With some hand-waves about how there's basically no higher government echelon to interfere.

The show runners were surely aware of the parallels.

I feel it's important to forward this from the discussion on Reddit:

> This EO frequently refers to all people with mental illness as being subject to these restrictions and requirements. This is not restricted to just the unhoused.

> > "the reversal of Federal or State judicial precedents and the termination of consent decrees that impede the United States’ policy of encouraging civil commitment of individuals with mental illness who pose risks to themselves or the public"

> > "provide assistance to State and local governments, through technical guidance, grants, or other legally available means, for the identification, adoption, and implementation of maximally flexible civil commitment, institutional treatment, and “step-down” treatment standards that allow for the appropriate commitment and treatment of individuals with mental illness who pose a danger to others"

Read into that what you will, but I find an EO with a significant dedication to "revoke laws requiring consent to institutionalization" quite concerning when the party / administration / organization creating it considers LGBT to be a mental illness.

And what is a non-Republican, if not in some way mentally ill, right? Lock up all political opponents, too.

Mmm, the business opportunities! Who's gonna build all these S̶o̶y̶l̶e̶n̶t̶ ̶F̶a̶c̶t̶o̶r̶i̶e̶s̶ institutional facilities. I wonder who will get to explore this new money stream.

The funding may need some creative thinking... reducing Medicaid should also lead to more homeless "raw material", win-win!
