When I was in undergrad I helped assemble parts of the detector for the LHC beauty project. Didn't understand a lick of the physics, I was just a lowly lab assistant. But it was still pretty cool. Thanks for sharing.
Speaking of the beam dumps, looks like they just had to use them while I was reading. (Something about a fault with quench protection in sector 12. Hopefully the magnets are fine)

Love how often photos from inside CERN are indistinguisable from a sci-fi themed AAA game.
Cutting-edge engineering at its finest.
All I could think of was Half-Life. "Gordon!! The upstream extruded graphite disc has indeed been cracked!!"

On that topic... Are there any games that plays out inside specifically CERN?
In Steins;Gate (VN/anime) a fictional CERN is the main antagonist https://steins-gate.fandom.com/wiki/SERN
Just a shot of the LHC though, no other scenes with their facilities.
Apparently CERN also appears its sister series Robotics;Notes, but I might play it someday so I won't spoil myself on how.

Is it the steel casing that becomes radioactive, or just the graphite itself? What sorts of transmutations are happening?
